BM# 75: A-Z Bake Around the World: Day 24
Bake of the Day: X for Xtra Crunchy Crackers (Sprouted Wheat Crackers)
Country: USA

We are three days away from finishing this month long mega marathon. It was quite a challenge to find a baked dish with letter X. I tried googling but couldn’t find any dish that started with X, which is why I decided to go with an adjective. My initial plan was to make something Xtra healthy but finally ended up making xtra crunchy.Extra Crunchy Crackers As I said before I wanted to make something healthy for today. I saw a gluten free banana bread recipe on TV and made it one day. I had such high hopes on this bread that I didn’t even have any plan B. That bread turned out the biggest flop ever. Luckily I was able to think of other word and find the recipe for these crunchy crackers.Extra Crunchy CrackersI made these crunchy crackers using sprouted wheat flour. I recently bought King Arthur’s sprouted wheat flour. Whole wheat grains are sprouted before milling to unlock their nutritional benefits, making them easier to digest. This flour has a lighter and milder taste.

Recipe for this sprouted wheat crackers is from King Arthur flour. They are very very easy to make and need less than 10 minutes of hands on time. I flavored the crackers with pizza seasoning to make them appealing to my kids. Feel free to add any other herbs or flavors you like.Extra Crunchy CrackersThese crackers are very light and crisp, you won’t even know that they are made of whole wheat. They are perfect to serve as is but they are great with a dip, spread or cheese. I served them with some freshly made spicy hummus. They are great as an afternoon snack.Sprouted Wheat Crackers

Sprouted Wheat Crackers
Instructions
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt and pizza seasoning. Rub in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse sand.
  2. Add the milk and mix until everything comes together. Knead for a minute until a smooth dough forms. Cover and set the dough aside for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  4. Divide the dough into 2 equal pieces. Work with 1 piece at a time -- roll it out on a parchment paper as thinly as possible, 1/16" or thinner. Using a pizza cutter, cut the dough into 1~2" squares.
  5. Brush the dough with olive oil and sprinkle some salt or pizza seasoning on top.
  6. Transfer the parchment paper onto a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12~15 minutes or until the crackers are crispy and golden.

  1. The crackers look super crunchy. And your clicks are gorgeous. It gets to be quite problematic when a planned dish goes awry. Glad you found such a delicious alternative.

  2. Omg those crackers looks too sinful. I would love to bake them soon but with whole wheat only. i am not sure if I would get sprouted flour here.
