Ingredients

Toor dal (Kandi pappu)
1 cup
Tomatoes – ripe, chopped

Green chilies – chopped
3
Curry leaves
6
Red chili powder
½ tsp
Kitchen King masala (optional)
1 tsp
Mustard seeds
½ tsp
Cumin seeds
½ tsp
Dry Red chilies
2
Asafoetiba
pinch
Salt
to taste

Steps

  1. Pressure cook dal until soft and mushy.
  2. Heat 2tsp oil in a saucepan; add the mustard and cumin seeds; after they splutter add red chilies and hing, sauté for few seconds.
  3. Then add chopped tomatoes, green chilies; cover and cook until tomatoes are cooked and turn mushy.
  4. Add cooked dal, red chili powder, masala powder and salt; simmer for 10 minutes on medium flame.
Tomato Pappu
Serve with rice or roti.I had my pappannam with gongura pachadi.
