Danish Grod | Chia Oats Porridge

Quick and easy to make Danish Grød. Oat and Chia Porridge is served with cardamom flavored berries. Get the recipe for this yummy breakfast!!

Ingredients

For the Oats:

  • 1 cup Rolled Oats (or quick cooking steel cut oats)
  • cups Unsweetened Almond Milk*
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Chia seeds

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup Mixed Berries, fresh or frozen
  • 2 teaspoons Maple syrup
  • ¼ teaspoon Ground Cardamom
  • As needed Chopped Nuts, optional
  • As needed Non dairy yogurt, optional
  • As needed Banana slices, optional
  • As needed Nut Butter, optional

Instructions

  • In a medium size saucepan, combine oats, milk and salt. Bring to a boil, lower the heat to medium-low and cook stirring constantly, about 3~5 minutes.
    1 cup Rolled Oats (or quick cooking steel cut oats), 2¼ cups Unsweetened Almond Milk*, Pinch of Salt
  • Stir in the chia seeds and cook stirring for another 3~5 minutes, or until the mixture thickens.
    1 tablespoon Chia seeds
  • In a small saucepan, combine berries, maple syrup and ground cardamom. Cover and cook till the berries are warmed through and turn soft, about 3~5 minutes.
    1 cup Mixed Berries, fresh or frozen, 2 teaspoons Maple syrup, ¼ teaspoon Ground Cardamom
  • To serve, divide the oats porridge equally between the two bowls, top with the berries and Enjoy!!

Notes

  • Quick cooking steel cut oats are also great to make Danish porridge.
  • Ground flaxseeds are good substitute for chia seeds, but the texture and taste will not be the same.
  • If you are not vegan, then use regular milk.
  • Any of your favorite unsweetened non-dairy milk will work. I love almond or oat milk in my grød recipe.
  • Customize your Danish oatmeal bowls with your favorite toppings. I love adding peanut butter or almond butter and chopped nuts.
