Servings: 8 Flatbreads

  • cups All purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons Semolina flour/ Fine sooji
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • ½ cup Plain Greek or regular Yogurt
  • As needed Oil, for cooking

  • Combine flour, baking powder, salt, semolina flour and whisk to combine. Stir in the Greek yogurt and ¼ cup of water. Mix the ingredients until everything comes together. If there is some dry flour left, add 1 tablespoon water at a time to incorporate it into the dough. Once all of the flour is mixed in, knead for 4~5 minute to make a soft, pliable dough. Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel or a plate and set aside for 30 minutes.
  • When ready to make the flatbreads, gently knead the dough for 2~3 minutes until nice and smooth. Then divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Work with one dough ball at a time and keep the rest covered with kitchen towel or a plate.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out each dough piece into a 6~8" round flatbread. It is OK if it is not a perfect circle. You can also roll into an oblong shape, traditional shape for naans.
  • Heat a griddle on medium high heat. Place the rolled flatbread on the hot griddle and cook until golden brown spots form on both sides. If desired, brush with oil while cooking.
Keep the cooked flatbreads warm wrapped in a kitchen towel until ready to serve. Repeat with the remaining dough. Enjoy warm or at room temperature with your favorite dip or curry.

  • Use all purpose flour for the best soft and fluffy texture. But you can add some whole wheat flour to add fiber.
  • You can also use self rising flour - in which case do not forget to adjust the amount of baking powder and salt in the recipe.
  • Use plain regular or Greek yogurt. Either full fat or 2% yogurt will work in the recipe.
  • Dough can be made up to 1 day in advance. Cover with a plastic wrap or place in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator.
  • Serve these warm with a side of a spicy curry or as a snack with dip.
  • Yogurt flat bread can be made up to 3 days ahead of time. Cool the flatbreads completely and then store them in the fridge wrapped in plastic wrap. You can also freeze them by layering them between parchment papers.
  • To make pizza flatbread:
    • Preheat oven to 425°F.
    • Spread pizza sauce, grated cheese and your favorite toppings on cooked flatbread.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 5~6 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
