Lemon Oats (Oats Nimmakaya Pulihora)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Oats
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 2 tsp Chana dal
  • 2 tsp Urad dal
  • 1 tbsp Peanuts
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 2 Dry red chilies
  • 1 tsp Ginger, finely grated (from about ½” piece)
  • 2~3 Green Chilies
  • tsp Asafoetida/ Hing
  • 8~10 Curry leaves
  • ¼ tsp Turmeric
  • cups Water
  • To taste Salt
  • 2 tbsp Lemon juice

Instructions

  • Dry roast oats until lightly browned, about 3~4 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add chana dal, urad dal and peanuts. Once the dals start to get golden, add mustard seeds, dry red chilies, ginger, asafoetida and curry leaves. Saute till mustard seeds start to splutter.
  • Add turmeric and pour water. Bring the water to a boil, season with salt and stir in the roasted oats. Lower the heat to simmer, cover and cook till all the water is absorbed.
  • Remove the lid and cook for 2~3 minutes to evaporate any water that is left. Turn off the heat and add the lemon juice. Mix well and serve hot.
