This Indian style veggie dip is packed with veggies and tastes spicy and delicious served with crackers or pita chips. Great to serve as an appetizer.
Yesterday I had a no-cook green goddess dip and today I have completely cooked dip. This Indian style mixed veggie dip is packed with veggies, as the name suggests. You can change up the veggies and use the ones that you like.
Indian Appetizers vs American Apps:
Most of the American appetizers revolve around cheese. There are cheese platters and also dips. When I think of dips, the only ones that come to mind are the American cheesy dips. Most of the Indian appetizers on the other hand are deep fried – spring rolls, pakora, samosa etc.
So when my cousin served this Indian style veggie dip on our last India trip, I was truly bowled over. I was tasked to assemble these little appetizers and I have to say quite a few vanished in the name of taste testing.
Ingredients for Indian Style Veggie Dip:
Recipe courtesy from Tarla Dalal’s site. A mixture of finely chopped veggies are used in this recipe. I used the below, but feel free to substitute with whatever veggie you have on hand:
- Carrot
- Green Beans
- Green Peas
- Tomato
You can also use finely chopped cabbage, any colored peppers, cauliflower etc.
Kitchen King Masala:
Another important ingredient in this dish is the addition of kitchen king masala, which adds a really nice flavor to the veggie mix.
For those of you, new to Kitchen king masala, it’s a blend of spices and most spice brands carry it. I usually buy MDH brand. It is spicy and adds a bit of heat too, so a little goes a long way.
If you can’t get your hands on this, good old Garam Masala will do the trick.
How make this Indian Style Appetizer:
Cook the veggies until tender along with spices and keep aside. Since there are so many veggies in the dip itself, it is great to serve with crackers or pita chips. I had some whole-wheat Ritz crackers and pita chips.
When the guests start to come, assemble the appetizer. There are 2 options to serve this:
- Top the crackers with the veggie mixture and grated cheese just before serving.
- Alternately serve it with a spoon and have everyone help themselves.
All in all this Indian style veggie dip is great to serve for any party or bring to potluck.
Some tips for making this Indian Style Veggie Dip:
- Since this is an appetizer, it is important to chop the veggies really fine. So there are no big chunks when eating.
- Also make sure that the veggies are chopped almost the same size for even cooking.
- Veggie mixture for the topping can be made up to 2 days in advance. Store in an airtight container in the fridge. Microwave until hot just before serving.
Let’s check out what my fellow marathoners have cooked today for BM# 94.

I am not surprised many vanished in the name of taste testing! This is a good finger food to have on the menu, since am assuming the dip can be made before hand.

Not sure if the previous comment went through. It says duplicate comment, though I am unable to see my previous comment. Ignore if it is a duplicate.

when I think of dip, I think of smooth consistency things – so this is such a unique twist for the idea of a dip. But I love the idea!

This looks like the perfect way to serve up some appetizers over the holidays. I think I would feel less guilty about eating so many appetizers if there were more vegetables like with this dip recipe!
