It’s an everyday bread, but I am sure it’s great to make for holidays too.100% Whole wheat Sandwich BreadI thought I baked most of the bread recipes from King Arthur flour site, but I was wrong. I just realized that there a ton of recipes that I haven’t even seen. This 100% Whole wheat bread was a total surprise. It is so easy to make and I’m not sure why I haven’t tried this till now.100% Whole wheat Sandwich BreadThis bread is probably the BEST whole wheat bread I have baked so far. It rises beautifully and has an amazing crumb. It is slightly sweet and tastes amazing. The bread is great as a toast or in a sandwich. • ½ cup Walnuts, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp Vital Wheat Gluten (optional)
  • 11/3 cups Lukewarm Water
100% Whole wheat Bread
Instructions
  1. Combine all the ingredients for the dough in a large mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer. Mix until a shaggy dough forms. Cover and set aside for 20 minutes.
  2. Mix and knead until the dough is smooth and pliable, about 5~6 minutes with the machine or 8~9 minutes by hand. Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl and set aside to rise for 1~2 hours, or until doubled in volume.
  3. Gently deflate the dough and shape it into a log. Place it in a lightly greased 9"x5" loaf pan. Cover and let rise for 1~2 minutes or until it's crowned about 1"~2" over the rim of the pan.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Bake the bread for 40~45 minutes. Tent it lightly with a foil for the final 20 minutes to avoid over-browning. The bread should have a golden brown crust and the interior should read 195°F~205°F on an instant read thermometer inserted into its center.
  5. Remove from the oven, and after 5 minutes, turn it out onto a wire rack to completely.

  1. I am feeling like crying, I am jealous. How one can bake so perfect bread? My dream of baking a bread always is a dream. Only once I got the perfect bread. My yeast always plays villian with me. I don’t remember how many times I tried baking and failed. Your bread looks perfect. I can’t dare to say I will try it soon.

  2. perfectly baked bread pavani – it looks like a piece of art / painting to me !! just stunning and even the slices are bakery quality ! so glad you could join us with this wonderful loaf 🙂

    1. Thank you Sapana. I didn’t add Vital Wheat gluten and still rose beautifully. So you can skip the gluten. Do try and let me know how the bread turns out.

  3. Hi! Trying this recipe and I’m wondering if some liquid was left out of the recipe ingredient list. There is not enough liquid to form a dough, mine is just remaining a sandy texture.

    1. Vanessa, I’m so sorry for missing the water quantity in the recipe. Please use 11/3 cups of water to the dough. I’ve updated the recipe accordingly. Thank you.
