This microwave doodh peda is easy to make and needs less than 15 minutes of hands-on time. All you need is 4 ingredients to make this dessert.

Grey plate with a stack of doodh peda

Many traditional Indian desserts are time consuming to make. They also need patience and certain techniques for perfect outcome.

But today I have a very simple and easy Indian dessert that is 100% foolproof. This doodh peda aka milk fudge is made entirely in the microwave. You need just 4 ingredients and 15 minutes to make it.

Traditional khova peda involves thickening milk until it gets to fudge consistency. There is a lot of stirring and baby-sitting involved.

I am not going to take away how amazing the end result taste. But my microwave version is not too lacking in taste. Unless you tell someone that this is a quick recipe, nobody would know.

Grey plate with a stack of microwave milk fudge

    Ingredients

Recipe needs only 4 main ingredients.

Condensed milk: I have made this recipe with whole milk, low-fat and even fat-free versions. They all work great.

Dry milk powder: Another ingredient where everything works - full fat, low-fat or even fat-free.

Substitute some of the milk powder with almond flour for a nutty twist.

Ghee: Unsalted butter can also used.

Ground Cardamom: Adds Indian flavor. Can substitute with vanilla extract.

    Instructions

As I mentioned before this milk powder fudge recipe takes no time to make at all. Only appliance you need is the microwave.

Start by adding butter to a medium size microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 30~40 seconds or until the butter is melted.

Add the condensed milk and milk powder to the melted butter. Stir thoroughly with a wooden spoon until well combined.

Step by step photos showing melted butter with condensed milk and dry milk powder

Microwave this mixture for 1 minute. Remove from the oven and stir well.

Repeat this process of microwaving for 1 minute and stirring 2 more times. So I microwaved for a total of 3 minutes.

Step by step photos showing condensed milk mixture being microwaved until cooked through and thick

Mixture should have thickened and dried out by this point. Cool the mixture until it is easy to handle, about 10~15 minutes.

Take about 1 tablespoon of mixture and roll into smooth balls and flatten them to make discs. If you want to make them look fancy, use a small cookie cutter to lightly emboss a design on top.

Step by step photos cooked condensed milk mixture being rolled into discs

Cool completely and store in an airtight container. Doodh peda can be stored at room temperature for up to 2 days. They can be refrigerated for up to 1 week.

    Tips:

    • This is just the basic recipe to make condensed milk fudge. It can be jazzed up a million different ways: add chopped nuts, saffron or even chocolate for tasty variations.
    • Low-fat or Fat free condensed milk will also work.
    • Whole, low-fat or non-fat milk powder will beautifully work.
    • Substitute some of the milk powder with almond flour for a nutty twist. I have made this recipe with ¾ cup of almond flour and 1 cup of milk powder and it turned out perfect.
    • Substitute ground cardamom with vanilla extract.
    • Each microwave is different. Cooking times mentioned are based on my 1000 Watt microwave oven. Adjust the cooking time based on the wattage of your appliance.

this is such a super simple way.. ur pedas look very ver delicious.. i dont have milk powder at home.. otherwise i wud have made this straight away... i recently made coconut ladoos with condensed milk.. i ahve noticed that when we use condensed milk the sweet tends to be on teh softer side.. actually that is nnot at all an issue since ,as u said , the effort is miniscule!!! awesome photos!!

hello Pavani,First time visiting your blog. I was looking for some festival related recipes and came across your blog. I had all the ingredients for pedas at home; so made my 11 year old son to follow instructions and do it. They came absolutely fantastic 🙂 The only thing I made was to make the peda rounds when they were a bit cool....This is such an easy kid friendly recipe.....Thanks so much :-)Meena.
